Just came back from AMK hub Cathay, after watching <钱不够用II> with my family. The movie was quite crude, super simple, and if you don't understand dialect, you probably lost like 20% of the content and humour.
(Spoiler warning)
But I still enjoyed it pretty much, and honestly it was quite memorable. The parts where the grandmother emo and sobs in the toilet really stirs your heart, and the dramatic moments like when she turns her head around after realizing she got dumped in an Old folk's home, and when she detached life support system to sacrifice herself in order to safe her granddaughter was just so touching.
I feel that Jack Neo is like some Stephen Chow wannabe, at least he sort of manages the effect of you trying to laugh and cry at the same time, like how I felt in some parts of CJ7. The lyrics of the songs, especially the one about the mother's selfless sacrifice over the years was really quite original and moving.
Well I don't usually go to the cinema for movies.. Most of you guys probably go like once a week? a fornight? a month? The first time I watched a movie in a cinema was I Not Stupid in primary 4, and since then, in these 7 years, I've only watched like 8 movies, thats around 1 a year O.O
Kk here's the list:
2002 I Not Stupid
2003 Home Run
2005 Batman Begins
2006 I Not Stupid 2
2006 X-men 3
2008 CJ7
2008 National Treasure
2008 Money not Enough 2
And other than Batman Begins, X-men 3 and National Treasure, the rest are all Chinese films, and 4 out of 5 of them are locals from Jack Neo. With the exception of Home Run which was a school outing, and Batman Begins which was a RISE outing, all the others are movies which I watched with my family.
Yeah and you know my mum, she insists on movies which she thinks has "educational values" in it, and relates well to us, which is we watched the 3 jack neo moves and CJ7 (instead of Kungfu Gua Lan, which was at the same time >.<) But all these movies, yeah they have actually sent some touching message across one way or another, and sometimes I find that more valuable than just no. 1 box office showcases and hollywood blockbusters.
