Haven't blogged in a week. Everyone's schedule is filled with the numerous CCTs and Assignments. Anyway, now the CCTs are over (for the time being). Yes, I know there's a bio CCT tomorrow, but I don't take Bio! So i have 2 free periods, one from the bio period, and one from the bio CCT. Hurray :)
Anyway, a few posts back, I commented about Ms Peh's teaching method. Now let me give you an overview of our teachers. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the worst, these teachers are rated:
English: Ms Quah Seok Wee (2) Terrible
Chinese: Mr Khoo Kiak Ern (7) Not bad
History: Ms Doreen Ang (6) Okay, but extremely boing
SS: Ms Morier Matthews (6) Okay, but seems to teach without a lesson plan. Lesson objective not clear and lots of time usually wasted. If not, she's a relatively good teacher.
Maths: Ms Peh Lian Hong (7) Seriously, I think she's not bad now.
Biology: Mrs Elizabeth Foo (4) Even though I don't take bio, I've heard lots about her. Can be fun and can be boring, the latter happening 90% of the time. She commands lots of respect in the school though, having worked in RI as a teacher for 21 years already, longer than any other teacher.
Physics: Mr Tan Weng Seng (9) Great, no doubt our best teacher
Chemistry: Mr Chong Han Guan (1 or 10) See explanation
Mr Chong Han Guan is our current chemistry teacher, who took over from our former pwnzors teacher, Mr. Tan Wei Lei. He allows you to play handphone games in class if you finished your worksheets already, and during our last chem lesson, the released us about half an hour early from the chem lab as the lab practical was so damn short. Some people went to RJ to enjoy themselves. So you think this is the ideal teacher for you? Think again.
Every lesson, he comes into class, gives you ~5 worksheets and ask you to do them as homework. Then he will go through (if you can even consider showing us the answer as going through) the ~5 worksheets he gave us last lesson. This goes on repeatedly until he runs out of worksheets. If you finished, then you can do anything you want (i.e, play handphone games). This is why some people give him a rating of 10.
My rating is 1 though, as he only gives out and go through worksheets, and thus he NEVER teaches. I'm somebody who is damn slow at grasping concepts, but the moment i get it i'll own in whatever wks and test that come in my way. Under such a teacher, I'll never grasp the concepts, cos I never learnt anything during his class.
For those people in 3D, you should know how his lessons are. Let me give you an example of a lesson in a sec 2 class. (Information for the rest of this paragraph supplied by fellow cellist Jon Yu) For your knowledge, Mr. Chong teaches Physics too. (Woah, so talented). For all the physics worksheets, he so lazy he didn't even bothered to go through them. So he printed out the answer key for the whole set of worksheets and asked the students to go and copy them. And today, he got pissed with his class and just stormed out, saying "YOU CAN DO FUCKING WHATEVER YOU WANT!"
So what's your rating for him? 1 or 10?
